5 simple and cost-effective ways to decorate your home for the festive season 🌲

If you are like me, then you appreciate simple and affordable Christmas decoration. We can get distracted with all the glitter and glamour, the multi-coloured animated fairy lights and the one too many colour and shape there is to choose from in the festive shop section with its ornaments, baubles and knick-knacks. It can be overkill for our senses - and for our wallets if we lose ourselves in the hype around us.

This is when I like to take myself out of it. Hey, what is it all about really? Without wanting to discuss personal belief systems and philosophy of life here; does it not all come down to essential care, warmth and a time to breath, think and worship what we have, who we are and where we are?

And this is where I would like to share with you super simple decoration tips that cost you near to nothing. Just a little bit of your time. Time we can use to create simple decoration whilst being thankful for a little bit of quiet. You only have a few days left? Fabulous, it all can be done in no time. So here we go:

This year, I collected fir cones and made home dried orange slices. These are the main ingredients and this year's theme for the five following scenery sets of which the first two are for the benefit of your neighbours also.

1 Door wreath

Choose five similar sized and shaped fir cones. With enough glue, agglutinate them at the bottom and craft them into a round shape. Let the glue dry nicely on a sheet of newspaper. Once it's all dry and solid, add a ribbon of your choice and hang it on a nail on your front door.

2 Seasonal window display

Choose a big glass vase, jar or glass fish bowl, add plenty of fir cones and dried orange slices before you put LED fairy lights into the tank also. It's as simple as that and so effective once you turn on the lights. My neighbours love its display by the window.

3 Chimney and fire place decoration

Your chimney deserves some seasonal beautification also. To continue the theme, we keep it effortless and simply add a nice mix of big, small, round, long fir cones into the space. If you'd like, you can add a candle or a tea light in the middle for some extra warmth.

4 Fir cone garland

Whether you'd like to simply wrap the yarn around the bottoms of the pine cones or decide to screw eye hooks into the base of the pine cone and string them together with yarn - both are easy to make and look great.

5 Table decoration

The dried oranges look divine on a dark grey plate or dish. Let them speak for themselves without adding too much. It really doesn't get more simple but it doesn't need to be more either. This is a lovely example of less being more.

That's it. We're all set, relaxed and Christmas ready. I hope that the one or other idea has inspired you and shown you how cost-effective and fun this all can - and ultimately should be. Oh, and the best part; the decorations are eco-friendly, sustainable and don't add any unnecessary waste to our beautiful planet. Seasons greetings!
